~*~Ruffles for Kate~*~

This old-fashioned hat and bootie set would be right at home in the artwork of Kate Greenaway.
They feature dainty eyelets and ribbon trim, and are edged with absurdly sumptuous lacy ruffles.

The bootie pattern includes three different sizes, from 0 to 9 months, while the ribbing and drawstring design of the hat allows it to easily adjust to different size heads.

Super-fine sock or fingering weight yarn is recommended.

For best results, I use different size needles in this project. If you do not have this luxury, simply use size 2 needles throughout and cast on very loosely.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and use this to seam the stitches together Kitchener-style to make the sole of the bootie. (If you dislike Kitchener, you can always K28 on row 37, bind off, and seam as normal.) Then seam up the back of the bootie. Remember that the cuff will be turned down and sew the seam so that it will not show on the outer side of the cuff.

After seaming, fold the cuff down. Line up the two rows of eyelets and thread the ribbon through both sets together, going under the single stitches and over the triples of stitches. Tie in a bow.
